ভূমিকা | Introduction
ইংরেজি ভাষা শেখার ক্ষেত্রে Sentence এর গঠন বোঝা অত্যন্ত গুরুত্বপূর্ণ। Sentence প্রধানত পাঁচ ধরনের হয় — Affirmative (হ্যাঁবাচক), Negative (নেতিবাচক) যা আমরা Assertive নামে চিনি। তারপর Interrogative (প্রশ্নবাচক) , Imperative, Optative and Exclamatory। এই আর্টিকেলে আমরা Negative Sentence নিয়ে বিস্তারিত আলোচনা করব — এটি কাকে বলে, এর গঠন কী, এবং বিভিন্ন উদাহরণের মাধ্যমে বিষয়টি সহজে বুঝব।
Definition of Negative Sentence
যে বাক্যে কোনো কাজ না করা, না হওয়া বা কোনো বিষয়কে অস্বীকার করা হয়, তাকে Negative Sentence বা নেতিবাচক বাক্য বলে।
সহজ কথায়, যে বাক্যে “না”, “নয়”, “নহে”, “নাই” ইত্যাদি শব্দ থাকে অথবা ইংরেজিতে যেখানে “not, no, never, nor, nothing, ” ব্যবহার করা হয়, সেগুলোই Negative Sentence।

Negative Sentence এর বৈশিষ্ট্য | Characteristics of Negative Sentences
- “not” এর ব্যবহার: Negative Sentence-এ সাধারণত Auxiliary Verb-এর পরে “not” বসে।
- অস্বীকৃতি প্রকাশ: এটি কোনো কাজ বা ঘটনাকে অস্বীকার করে।
- Contraction ব্যবহার: কথ্য ভাষায় প্রায়ই Contraction (সংক্ষিপ্ত রূপ) ব্যবহার হয়, যেমন: don’t, doesn’t, isn’t, aren’t, can’t ইত্যাদি।
- অর্থের পরিবর্তন: Affirmative Sentence-কে Negative করলে বাক্যের অর্থ উল্টে যায়।
Negative Sentence এর গঠন | Structure of Negative Sentences
Negative Sentence গঠন করতে হলে Tense এবং Auxiliary Verb সম্পর্কে ভালো ধারণা থাকতে হবে। নিচে বিভিন্ন Tense অনুযায়ী Negative Sentence এর গঠন দেওয়া হলো:
১. Present Simple Tense (সাধারণ বর্তমান কাল)
গঠন : Subject + do not / does not + Verb (base form) + Object
নোট: Subject যদি Third Person Singular (He, She, It) হয়, তাহলে does not বসে। বাকি সব ক্ষেত্রে do not বসে।
Affirmative (হ্যাঁবাচক) Negative (নেতিবাচক)

২. Present Continuous Tense (চলমান বর্তমান কাল)
গঠন : Subject + am / is / are + not + Verb (ing form) + Object
Affirmative Negative
- I am reading. = I am not reading. (আমি পড়ছি না।)
- He is sleeping. =He is not sleeping. (সে ঘুমাচ্ছে না।)
- They are playing. =They are not playing. (তারা খেলছে না।)
Contraction:
- is not = isn’t
- are not = aren’t
৩. Present Perfect Tense (পুর্ণ বর্তমান কাল)
গঠন : Subject + have not / has not + Verb (past participle) + Object

- I have eaten. =I have not eaten. (আমি খাইনি।)

“To Be” Verb সহ Negative Sentence
যখন বাক্যে am, is, are, was, were থাকে, তখন এদের পরেই সরাসরি not বসে — আলাদা Auxiliary Verb দরকার হয় না।
গঠন: Subject + am/is/are/was/were + not + Complement

Never, No, Nobody, Nothing দিয়ে Negative Sentence
শুধু “not” নয়, আরও কিছু শব্দ দিয়েও Negative Sentence তৈরি হয়:

Affirmative থেকে Negative করার নিয়ম | Rules for Changing Affirmative to Negative
নিয়ম ১: Auxiliary Verb থাকলে, সরাসরি Auxiliary Verb-এর পরে “not” বসাও।
She is reading → She is not reading.
নিয়ম ২: Present Simple-এ Auxiliary Verb না থাকলে, Subject অনুযায়ী do not / does not বসাও।
He plays → He does not play.
নিয়ম ৩: Past Simple-এ did not বসাও এবং Verb-এর Base Form ব্যবহার করো।
They went → They did not go.
